5 Ways To Get Motivated

By: Aydan Corkern

No one person can be motivated all of the time. It's normal to lose your motivation because no one can ever be positive and super ecstatic everyday. Even CEOs or big firms and the head honchos of successful businesses feel the slump. Even the self-help gurus and motivational speakers feel slumps every now and then! We're all human, and we will fall into bouts of sadness, depression, and discouragement from time to time.

When you've been in a slump for quite some time, even the thought of finding motivation again can be very difficult. The important thing to keep in mind is that it's not completely hopeless. Starting off small by implementing little things into your life everyday will get you up and running like a car who just got a new engine!

Here are some tips to get you started:

1. Change your attitude and get excited. When I say get excited, I mean get EXCITED! You control your attitude. You control whether or not you will be happy or sad, and although circumstances and outside sources will affect your emotions, you ultimately decide what you will feel. So start feeling the excitement. Think about how exciting normal daily tasks are, such as making yourself breakfast, or how exciting it is that you are alive and breathing!

2. Find your inspiration. Whether it is by looking at a finished product of something you hope to do someday, such as a painting or a piano piece, or by looking to others who have accomplished what you hope to accomplish, finding your inspiration will give you the determination and excitement you need to attain your goal.

3. Set a goal. Don't set five goals all at once because you will get overwhelmed. Start with one small goal and don't include another goal until you've achieved it. Once you've completed that goal, you will bask in the success of achievement and will be even more motivated to complete your next goal.

4. Remind yourself of your goal. Write it on your dry-erase board on your fridge. Print it out on paper and tape it to your ceiling so it is the first thing you see when you open your eyes in the morning. Jot it down in your planner. Set it as a reminder on your phone so it will ring and remind you daily. The more you think about your goal, the more likely you are of achieving it.

5. Stick with it. Don't give up. If you give up on your goal now, then that will only discourage you further and put you into a deeper hole than when you first tried to get out of the slump. It doesn't matter if it takes you a month, six months, a year, or even five years. Stick with your goal and achieve it. By abandoning your goal, you are also giving up on yourself.

These tips may sound difficult, but implementing the first tip first will give you the determination and outlook that will trigger the rest, and it will fall into place. In time, you will accomplish your goal and many more goals that you will set for yourself.
