Grocery Shopping Tips For Bodybuilders

By: Dane Fletcher

Shopping especially for most men is an activity that they dread especially if it means going for shopping with the Mrs. But fret no more, you can enjoy shopping as much as it is humanly possible if you just got some of the basics right. Women are natural shoppers but not all of them are wise shoppers so this is also an article for them as well. Here are a few things that are considered to be the basics of grocery shopping especially for bodybuilders.

1. Know What You Want To Buy In Advance

The only way you can be an efficient shopper is if you have a worked out plan of exactly it is that you want to bag home at the end of the day. Before you leave the house to go for grocery shopping, take your meal plan and go to your kitchen. Check for what you still have left and what needs to be replenished. Never wait until something is completely over for you to replace it, it might greatly interfere with your nutritional intake. It's just on every other day that you can run to the grocery store to get some oatmeal for breakfast, either you won't have the time or even worse, you won't have the extra cash to spend.

2. Categorize What You Want To Buy

This will ensure that you don't leave anything out of the shopping list. You can categorize it into plant and animal protein, carbohydrates, vegetables, fruits, dried grains and flour etc. you should do the same when buying your supplements, categorize them into the different supplements so that you don't forget any.

3. Know The Budget You're Working With

My greatest fear when shopping is that I'll go to the counter to pay for the stuff I've bought and find that they exceed my budget. Then I would have to go through the embarrassment of returning some of it to the shelf. If you are paying with a credit card this doesn't exempt you from having a budget. You may end up spending a lot more cash than what you normally spend simply because you're not paying from your cash at hand. The amount you're willing to spend on your grocery is what will determine what appears on your shopping list and how much of it appears there. If you're working with a low budget, just get cheaper replacements of what you normally use but they must have the same nutritional value. You can forego fish which is relatively more expensive than soy meat for example.

4. Try To Enjoy Yourself

In spite of the fact that by the end of it all your wallet will be slightly or a lot smaller than it was, you don't have to consider shopping to be a gruesome ordeal. Have a light meal before you so that you don't get all cranky when you become hungry. Wear comfortable shoes and clothes that will make you feel comfortable as you shop. If you're a music person, get yourself a walk man or something like that.
