Health Risks Of Passive Cigarette Smoking

By: Alan B. Densky, CH

Most people know that smoking is dangerous, yet despite knowing about the damaging effects of smoking on their own health, many smokers cannot seem to quit. They defend their habit by assuming they are only affecting themselves if they smoke. In reality, smoking also influences the health of those who don't smoke. Friends, family, children, co-workers, and even people who just happen to be nearby may suffer health effects from passive smoke.

What is passive smoking? You may have heard of the term "secondhand smoke" to define smoke inhaled by someone near a smoker. Secondhand smoke is a mixture of smoke from a burning cigar, cigarette, or pipe, and the smoke exhaled by a smoker. It often has greater amounts of damaging chemicals than inhaled smoke, for example, double the amount of tar and nicotine. This puts those exposed to secondhand smoke at a higher risk of smoking related illnesses and health problems.

Scientific studies of the effects of passive smoking show increased risks for lung disease, heart disease, and various ailments for people constantly exposed to secondhand smoke. Statistics on smoking show a relationship between secondhand smoke and cancer, with passive smokers having an increased risk of lung cancer and heart disease. Sadly, it is not uncommon for the nonsmoking child or spouse of a smoker to develop diseases related to smoking because of long-term exposure to secondhand smoke.

Passive smoking is especially damaging to infants and children. Infants and children exposed to secondhand smoke are at a higher risk of respiratory infections and other respiratory health problems. Asthmatic children are at a higher risk of having frequent attacks. Secondhand smoke can also be responsible for increasing a pregnant woman's risk of having a miscarriage or a premature baby.

Due to the health effects of secondhand smoke, smoking has been banned in many public places, such as bars and restaurants. Passive smoking can also be a cause for concern in the workplace. Workers who inhale secondhand smoke have an increased risk of illness and even have more absences from work. This has led many offices to ban smoking on the premises, and some areas have even passed laws against smoking in the workplace. Among jobs with a ban on smoking, employers report more productive employees and fewer absences from work.

Ultimately, most smokers start looking for ways to stop smoking out of concern for the health of their family. There are several ways to stop smoking, and one of the fastest ways is through the use of a quit smoking hypnosis program. Hypnosis programs for quitting smoking are designed specifically to help smokers stop smoking without withdrawal. They are particularly useful because they help smokers beat the mental aspect of the addiction, which is the most difficult aspect to beat.

Self-hypnosis programs are designed to teach people hypnotic techniques to help stop smoking. One of the best things about these programs is the fact that smokers learn how to stop smoking without having withdrawal. Hypnotic techniques can diminish or even completely eliminate withdrawal symptoms commonly experienced using other methods of quitting smoking. Another great thing is that since people are instructed on how to use hypnotic techniques on themselves, they do not have to worry about experiencing a relapse. If they ever feel the urge to smoke, they just recall and utilize the techniques that allowed them to quit.

Hypnosis targets multiple areas to help people stop smoking. It is an ideal tool for ending smoking cravings while also functioning as a relaxation aid to relieve tension and anxiety. It also works as a motivating tool to completely eliminate the psychological urge to smoke. This variety of effects gives hypnosis its high rate of effectiveness in helping people to stop smoking once and for all.

Stop smoking benefits include improved health for the former smoker as well as for friends, co-workers, and family. Those who are looking to stop smoking for the sake of their families can turn to self-hypnosis for a safe and easy-to-use tool for quitting smoking. Anyone can learn self-hypnosis techniques for quitting from a well-formulated program, and stop smoking hypnosis has a high rate of effectiveness because it makes the process of quitting smoking much easier.
