You’ve probably seen young kids who have a steep learning curve.
They may simply repeat things that obviously haven’t worked for them in the past. They didn’t learn from it the first time. This is about learning your lessons more quickly.
When this happens with young children, it’s often funny and cute. But hopefully, as we grow older, we become better at refining our choices and actions to give us positive results.
Quickly learning what works and what does not – is a very effective happiness hack and a useful life skill. Like I said, it’s about learning your lessons more quickly.
If you could give yourself a grade for how you do at learning your lessons more quickly, what would it be?
Would you get an A or an F? How can you do better?
I’ll give you four simple tips to learning your lessons more quickly.
1. The first tip is to know what you want. By knowing what you want, you can become clearer about which actions get you the results you want, and which don’t.
When you are fuzzy about the life and the results you wish to achieve, then learning your life lessons doesn’t really matter anyway. Like Alice in Wonderland, if you don’t care where you go, then it doesn’t really matter what road you take. Any path will get you there.
2. Your second tip is to increase your awareness of Cause and Effect in your life. I know this is really simple, but how often are we unaware, and suffer because of it? I just became aware (just this very minute), that while writing in Word, it gives me a running count of how long (in words) my article is. Yep, it’s right down at the bottom. I’ve been writing for over twenty years and until now, I’ve always had to highlight the paragraphs, and go to Tools – Word Count, to get this information.
By becoming more aware, now my life will be simpler and more efficient in one small way!
3. The third life skill to help you learn more quickly is to focus on the emotions you want. We all want certain things, but most people don’t know WHY they want them. We want things in our life because we think that they will give us the emotions we want. For example, you may want a new car because you THINK it will give you the feelings of power and confidence that you really want.
If power and confidence is what you want, just go straight to the emotion. There are better ways of achieving these feelings than a new car. In fact, feeling powerful and confident will help you to get the new car (if you really want one).
Get my Positive Emotions List and my Negative Emotions List to help you increase your awareness of emotions and emotional language. This WILL help you get what you want in life, because what you really want is an emotion.
4. Your fourth tip is to question your beliefs. We all have beliefs about ourselves and about the world, and often these beliefs are not accurate or helpful. In other words, they don’t get you the results you want. So question your beliefs.
For example, I’ve had a belief about myself for many years that “I’m not an early adopter of new technology.” I’m just realizing that I can change that belief..! It’s true that in the past I haven’t been an early adopter, but it’s also true that this belief has NOT helped me in my business and in my financial life. So I choose to change this belief and become an early adopter of trends and technology when it helps me to get the results I want.
There you go. Use these four simple tips for learning your lessons more quickly and have a better life.
