phobia treatment hypnotherapyMany people suffer from emetophobia, yet this fear is rarely mentioned or discussed. Simply put, this phobia is a fear of vomit. People with severe emetophobia are willing to go to any lengths necessary to avoid vomiting or the sight of vomit. Although emetophobics typically cope by avoiding their fear, it can be completely cured using techniques such as Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.

Emetophobia is an extremely common phobia with far ranging implications for its sufferers. Some people refuse to dine outside of their home or with others out of fear of getting food poisoning. Pregnant women with emetophobia may be absolutely terrified of having morning sickness. The condition also makes it difficult for parents to raise their newborns or tend to their young children if they fall ill.

Emetophobia can seriously affect a person's ability or willingness to travel. An individual might be afraid of traveling to a foreign country and falling ill. Many emetophobia sufferers will avoid public settings and transportation because they are afraid of getting sick or even witnessing someone else getting sick. The phobia also affects one's ability to work in certain careers, such as nursing and healthcare.

The phobia is often caused by childhood cases of vomiting. Sufferers may remember the unpleasant experience of being ill and want to avoid it at all costs. They may also fear illness because they associate it with a lack of physical control. Emetophobia affects both men and women of all ages.

Severe emetophobia can manifest itself into other anxiety disorders and phobias. Many sufferers will develop agoraphobia, a fear of unfamiliar places which can drive a person to become a "shut-in." People with emetophobia may also have a deep fear of germs or hospitals. What begins as emetophobia can quickly escalate into a number of serious conditions linked to the original fear.

Many sufferers try to cope with their fear by avoiding it whenever possible, but emetophobia can be successfully treated with options ranging from therapy to anti-anxiety medication. However, there are some unique challenges involved with treating emetophobia. Over time, the phobia becomes strongly associated with vivid negative imagery in the unconscious mind. The fear is so deeply rooted that it cannot be controlled by conscious effort or willpower alone. People with emetophobia may realize that their fear is irrational, yet still feel powerless to do anything about their condition.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool for curing phobias because it can dissociate or disconnect a fear from negative imagery within the unconscious mind. It is an excellent form of safe and non-invasive therapy that provides permanent results.

Hypnotherapy treatments often take the form of a program broken down into several, easy-to-follow sessions. A good program begins with relaxation treatment. This has a calming effect and helps make the mind more receptive to hypnosis. Once a person feels relaxed and stress-free, hypnotherapy guides the unconscious mind into adopting a new, phobia-free thought process.

Ericksonian hypnotherapy is ideal for independent minded thinkers, such as the many emetophobia sufferers who find it important to have control over their own health and well-being. It works by using indirect suggestions hidden in stories, metaphors, and dialogues. It is different from traditional hypnosis techniques, which utilize direct post-hypnotic suggestions to treat individual phobias. These conventional techniques often prove ineffective because of people's tendency to question what they are told and resist direct suggestions. With Ericksonian hypnotherapy, these problems can be avoided.

Since emetophobia is frequently accompanied by other anxiety disorders such as germophobia and agoraphobia, it is important for a good treatment program to address all of these issues. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques have an advantage over traditional hypnosis programs because they are not phobia specific; they can be used to treat any phobia, or even multiple phobias. Moreover, the combined program will be effective for most users because it contains a wide range of techniques to suit any individual.

People are often pleasantly surprised at the ease with which they achieve results through hypnotherapy. It has helped countless people easily overcome their phobias and it is a leading form of phobia treatment. The techniques found in Ericksonian hypnosis and NLP are effective treatments for a variety of fears and anxiety disorders. They hold the key to success for helping many emetophobia sufferers vanquish their fears and feel comfortable and in control.
